The short film Johnny Yesno, funded by Yorkshire Arts Association, was made in 1981, with an original soundtrack by Cabaret Voltaire. Their own video label, Doublevision, released the compilation on VHS, along with the soundtrack album, in 1983.

In 2011, the original film and the VHS tape were remastered and re-released as part of the Johnny Yesno Redux CD/DVD package by Mute Film, a division of Mute Records.
